Have you ever heard about a control system?
The name itself is scary right? But don't worry, it's not as frightening as it seems!
This post is for those of you who don't know anything about this! We synthesize everything in the simplest possible way for your understanding!
WHAT IS IT?
In the rush of everyday life, you get on an elevator, press the desired floor, and in a matter of seconds, arrive at your destination floor, exactly where you expected. Or get in your car, turn on the autopilot, and drive constantly at the set speed.
But have you ever stopped to think about what is implemented so that we have such great precision in these simple actions of our daily lives?
Behind all this, there is a control system, responsible for making the necessary adjustments so that the objectives are achieved quickly and efficiently, without oscillation in the system.
Imagine you and your friend step inside an elevator (without a control system), and two more people enter. Because there is more weight, the elevator will not behave in the same way, it will be slower, take longer to reach the desired floor, oscillate between floors until you can actually stop. Or even an opposite situation, just one person in the elevator, it would be very fast and also swing until it reaches the floor.
Have you ever wondered if this really happened? It could result in several accidents, like has already happened in real life!

And it is precisely to avoid this type of behavior that control systems exist! They guarantee precise, fast and correct operation for the machine, in various situations! But, how is this possible?
OPERATION
Among all control systems, the most used in the industrial, robotics and related fields is the PID! As its own name indicates, it means PROPORTIONAL, INTEGRAL AND DERIVATIVE.
These are mathematical constants, which after much calculation, return values, which are sent to an engine, for example.
There are several methods to adjust these constants and make them ideal for the given type of system, but then we get into a much more complex part, we’ll leave it for the next post!
ROBOTICS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS
In our competitions, we participate in several matches. They last 2:30min, with the first 15 seconds operating autonomously. In other words, the robot cannot be controlled by the pilot, all actions during this time must be programmed.
And it is mainly during that time that we implement the PID control systems, to make the robot reach certain positions, or even speeds, without oscillations, quickly and accurately.
